Paul brings more than two decades of in-house legal experience, enabling him to advise clients on a wide range of commercial and tax matters, including clean energy and advanced manufacturing incentives. His experience includes investment tax credits (ITCs) under Sections 48 and 48E and production tax credits (PTCs) under Sections 45 and 45Y. Combining deep tax knowledge with a practical business perspective, Paul helps clients navigate complex incentive regimes and translate technical tax requirements into actionable commercial strategies.

Before joining McGuireWoods, Paul served as chief legal officer of a clean energy technology company headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he oversaw all legal functions. He held similar roles at companies developing electric and autonomous vehicles and a technology-focused communications platform for utilities. Earlier in his career, he spent more than 20 years at a leading global engineering and construction firm, where he developed and implemented operational structures to meet commercial, financial, legal, and regulatory needs. He was also a developer of power generation and other infrastructure assets.

Paul received his LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law; his J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School; and his B.A. in History from Erskine College.
