Tom is a trusted advisor to hospitals, surgery centers and other healthcare providers across the country, helping them navigate their most important legal issues.
He advises on medical staff matters, including credentialing, investigations, disciplinary matters, and hearings, and in preparation of, and revisions to, medical staff bylaws. Tom also counsels clients on peer review privilege, certificate of public need, and professional and facility licensure.
Tom serves on the Health Law Section Council of the Virginia Bar Association. He is a past chairman of the Board of Governors of the Virginia State Bar’s Health Law Section and served as vice chair, secretary, and newsletter editor of the section. Among his many honors, Tom is ranked Band 1 for Healthcare in Virginia by Chambers USA and is consistently recognized in The Best Lawyers in America, which named him Richmond’s Lawyer of the Year for health care law three times.
After earning his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, Tom was a law clerk for Judge Boyce F. Martin Jr. of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit.
