Jim Frederick is the Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry (DOLI), appointed by Governor Abigail Spanberger in January 2026. He brings more than 35 years of experience in workplace safety, health, and labor issues at the local, state, and national levels. Prior to joining DOLI, Jim served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health at the U.S. Department of Labor, where he led national OSHA operations and regulatory initiatives. He also previously served as a Principal at NEXUS HSE, LLC and held senior leadership roles with the United Steelworkers Union.
