The Daily Report published an April 20, 2026, Q&A with McGuireWoods’ Charlotte partner Kevin McGinnis, who is a finalist for the newspaper’s Southeastern Legal Awards in the Most Effective Dealmakers category.
McGinnis chairs the firm’s Debt Finance Department. Last year, he represented Bank of America in $1 billion-plus credit facilities for Target Corp., J.B. Hunt Transport, Ross Stores, Nucor Corp. and Starbucks, among other major transactions.
Asked about other significant achievements from 2025, McGinnis said, “I advised several major financial institutions on impactful, large-scale financings supporting professional sports franchises and major venue developments. These transactions required sophisticated structuring and careful coordination among lenders, team ownership, league offices, and public-sector stakeholders, often under tight timelines and intense scrutiny.”
Asked about the keys to becoming a trusted transactional lawyer, McGinnis said, “It demands consistency, credibility, and a long-term commitment to client relationships. I have built trust by delivering results in the most challenging circumstances, whether structuring billion-dollar financings, navigating league-imposed restrictions, or managing complex multi-party negotiations under tight timelines.”
The Daily Report, an affiliate of The American Lawyer, will announce the award winner at a reception May 7, 2026, in Atlanta.
