McGuireWoods Managing Partner Tracy Walker Honored Among Virginia Leaders in the Law

October 28, 2019

Virginia Lawyers Weekly has selected McGuireWoods Managing Partner J. Tracy Walker IV for its annual Leaders in the Law list honoring prominent lawyers across the state for significant accomplishments changing the law, serving the community and improving Virginia’s justice system. The honorees are profiled in a special Virginia Lawyers Weekly supplement published Oct. 28.

Walker became McGuireWoods’ managing partner in 2017 after stints as deputy managing partner for litigation and chair of the Product & Consumer Litigation Department. He has served as national trial, class action and appellate counsel for corporate clients, including some of the world’s largest automakers, and his many successes in high-stakes cases were instrumental in the firm’s selection as an Automotive Practice Group of the Year by Law360. Among his numerous honors, The Best Lawyers in America named him Richmond’s lawyer of the year in the Mass Tort Litigation / Class Actions – Defendants category for 2020.

Walker also heads McGuireWoods’ Diversity Action Council, a committee dedicated to advancing the firm’s strategic diversity and inclusion goals.

Walker has a long history of leadership and influence in Virginia’s legal community. He was elected by his peers to the Virginia State Bar’s governing body, the State Bar Council, and has served on numerous bar committees. He is a past president of the Richmond Bar Association and a member of the Virginia Bar Association’s Boyd-Graves Conference, a select group of trial lawyers, judges, scholars and legislators that studies and proposes reforms to state laws. Walker also is a fellow of the Virginia Bar Foundation, which supports the Virginia Bar Association’s charitable and educational pursuits.

“Tracy’s contributions to McGuireWoods and the legal community are immeasurable and we are proud to see him receive this well-deserved recognition for his leadership and service,” said McGuireWoods Chairman Jonathan Harmon.

“I am honored and humbled to be included in this class of distinguished lawyers and grateful for the support of my friends and colleagues at McGuireWoods,” Walker said.

Virginia Lawyers Weekly’s 2019 Leaders in the Law class was honored at an Oct. 22 reception at the John Marshall Hotel in Richmond.
