North Carolina Lawyers Weekly and The Mecklenburg Times Name Angie Zimmern to 50 Most Influential Women List

August 29, 2023

McGuireWoods Charlotte counsel Angie Zimmern has been named one of the 50 Most Influential Women of 2023 by North Carolina Lawyers Weekly and its sister publication The Mecklenburg Times. The awards recognize leaders in the business, government, legal, education and nonprofit sectors for professional achievements, community involvement and a record of leadership.

Zimmern has served as McGuireWoods’ pro bono director since 2019, expanding the firm’s commitment to developing and sustaining pro bono programs recognized nationally for innovation and impact. The number of pro bono hours recorded by the firm increased more than 35 percent during Zimmern’s first three years in the role.

McGuireWoods has earned numerous pro bono service honors during Zimmern’s tenure, including the Pro Bono Institute’s prestigious Corporate Pro Bono (CPBO) Pro Bono Partner Award.

The firm won the award in 2020 for Charlotte Triage, a groundbreaking collaboration with corporate law departments to expand pro bono services for low-income Charlotte residents and ease the burden on legal aid organizations. Zimmern co-chaired the task force that created Charlotte Triage, which she continues to co-lead. McGuireWoods won the award a second time in 2022 for joining forces with Dominion Energy in a successful medical-legal partnership with VCU Health to help low-income patients and families in the Richmond, Virginia, area.

Among her numerous honors, Zimmern received the Distinguished Pro Bono Service Award, a lifetime achievement recognition presented by the Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy, the Council for Children’s Rights and Legal Aid of North Carolina. North Carolina Lawyers Weekly also named her a Leader in the Law and the Charlotte Business Journal presented her with a Women in Business Achievement Award.

“I am grateful to receive this honor along with the other exceptional women leaders making a difference in the Charlotte community and beyond,” Zimmern said.

This year’s 50 Most Influential Women will be honored at an Oct. 19 networking reception at the Hilton Charlotte University Place.
