The M&A Advisor selected McGuireWoods partner Dan Howell as a winner of its 2025 Emerging Leaders Awards honoring young professionals for success in mergers and acquisitions, turnarounds and financing.
Howell advises companies and private equity funds in mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, equity investments, cross-border transactions and joint ventures. He also counsels clients on corporate governance, supply chain management and general business law matters. His practice spans industries such as energy, logistics, food and beverage, chemicals, financial services, technology, manufacturing and business services.
Howell’s deal work includes Dominion Energy’s $14 billion sale of its three natural gas distribution companies to Enbridge in 2024. The separate transactions created the largest natural gas utility franchise by volume in North America.
He also was part of a McGuireWoods team advising Origo hf, an Icelandic IT services firm, on its $195 million sale of a minority interest in Tempo to Diversis Capital, one of the largest Icelandic transactions of 2022. The transaction was honored in The M&A Advisor’s International M&A Awards as the IT Deal of the Year (over $100 million).
Howell dedicates significant time to pro bono work and professional service. His corporate pro bono efforts help nonprofit organizations with mergers, bylaw reviews, governance issues and contractual matters.
“Dan’s legal insight and business acumen are valued by clients who turn to him for their most important transactions,” said Richard W. Viola, deputy managing partner of McGuireWoods’ corporate practice. “His leadership and contributions make our practice stronger, and we congratulate him on this honor.”
The M&A Advisor will recognize winners at the 2025 Leadership in Dealmaking Summit, to be held Sept. 15-16 in New York City.
