McGuireWoods’ Richmond office is our largest office, offering a full range of legal services to clients around the world. A state and regional center for legal work, Richmond is home to the Supreme Court of Virginia, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit, and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. The Virginia General Assembly meets here, and most state administrative agencies are located in Richmond. The 5th District of the Federal Reserve System, which serves four states and the District of Columbia, also calls Richmond home.

Richmond maintains its heritage as it builds for the future – having watched its own skyline be redrawn with restored landmarks and daring new architecture. One old railroad station is the Science Museum of Virginia and also houses a state-of-the-art planetarium. Main Street Station, built in 1901 and used for 74 years as a train station, has undergone many changes.  It has been used as retail food centers, restaurants and state offices for the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Having been revitalized, it now once again operates as a train station. A magnificent movie theater listed in the National Register of Historic Landmarks has been transformed into a performing arts center, home of the Richmond Symphony. Shockoe Slip and Shockoe Bottom, old warehouse districts, are lively collections of restaurants, shops, apartment buildings and offices adjacent to the downtown area. McGuireWoods has been actively involved in all of these projects.
