Business Insurance featured McGuireWoods’ Insurance Recovery Practice Group in an Aug. 21, 2026, article highlighting the firm’s selection as “Legal Team of the Year” in the magazine’s U.S. Insurance Awards.
The article said the McGuireWoods team “made its mark with high-profile and high-stakes cases,” citing matters handled by the group’s three co-chairs:
- Kirk Pasich’s representation of Wayfarer Studios in a defamation case and his appeal over business interruption claims from the COVID-19 pandemic;
- Tony Tatum’s advocacy for Chevron in litigation against 15 insurers regarding $60 million in coverage after Iran’s seizure of a cargo vessel in the Gulf of Oman with Chevron’s crude oil; and
- Shaun Crosner’s work for insured manufacturers and suppliers seeking more than $1 billion in coverage for underlying litigation alleging lung injuries and diseases attributable to alleged exposure to silica, metals, and other constituents in stone and tile products.
“The plaintiffs attorneys that are filing these lawsuits, they’re treating this as the new asbestos,” Crosner told Business Insurance.
The article also highlighted the growth of McGuireWoods’ policyholder-only practice group, which has 47 lawyers from coast to coast and holds a nationwide ranking in Chambers USA. Crosner and partner Shelby Guilbert, who chairs the firm’s Commercial Litigation Department, attended the recent U.S. Insurance Awards ceremony in Chicago, where McGuireWoods’ win was announced.
