McGuireWoods’ Lisa Medina is Elected to American College of Bond Counsel

McGuireWoods partner Lisa M. Medina has been elected a fellow of the American College of Bond Counsel, an honor reserved for lawyers who have established reputations for skill, experience and high standards of professional and ethical conduct in the practice of bond law.

Medina and other newly elected fellows were recognized Oct. 13, 2026, at the American College of Bond Counsel’s annual dinner in Chicago.

Medina advises clients on tax-exempt bond financings, serving as bond, underwriter’s, bank counsel and borrower’s counsel. Her experience includes negotiating bond and related financings for life care communities, educational institutions (including independent schools and charter schools), colleges and universities, hospitals and healthcare centers, and other nonprofits. She advises on state and local governmental bond financings of all credit types, from state-level transportation financings to energy equipment leases.

Medina spent the first 12 years of her career as a lawyer at McGuireWoods in Richmond, Virginia, where she rose from associate to partner before joining Wells Fargo, where she was senior capital markets counsel supporting the bank’s public finance line of business. She returned to McGuireWoods in 2018 in the firm’s Charlotte office.

“Election to the American College of Bond Counsel is one of the highest honors in our field, and Lisa has earned it many times over,” said Kay McNab, co-leader of McGuireWoods’ Public Finance Practice Group. “She blends sharp judgment with creative vision and deep expertise, making her an indispensable partner in our national practice and a trusted advisor to our clients.”

Medina is the second McGuireWoods partner inducted into the American College of Bond Counsel, following Baltimore partner Alan C. Cason.

“I am deeply honored to be elected a fellow of the American College of Bond Counsel and to join lawyers I have long admired,” Medina said. “Public finance makes possible the schools, hospitals and infrastructure that strengthen our communities, and I am grateful to my clients and colleagues for the opportunity to help bring those projects to life.”
