A former senior counsel and trial attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Environmental Defense Section, Andrew Knudsen has significant experience in complex environmental litigation and regulatory matters. He has represented the United States and its agencies in high-stakes disputes across the country under the Clean Air Act, RCRA, CERCLA, and other federal environmental statutes.
During his time at DOJ, Andrew led cases involving emerging issues related to PFAS chemicals, defended EPA drinking water standards and other agency actions in several federal appellate courts, and served as lead counsel in nationwide multidistrict litigation asserting claims under CERCLA, RCRA, and other federal and state environmental statutes. He also counseled federal agencies on the development of environmental regulations and policy initiatives. Earlier in his career, Andrew practiced at an AmLaw 100 firm where he advised corporate clients in administrative rulemakings, permitting proceedings, and federal and state litigation arising from both.
Andrew earned his J.D., cum laude, and Master of Public Policy from Georgetown University, where he was a national finalist in the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court. He also holds a Master of Science in Education from the University of Pennsylvania and dual B.A.s in Public Policy and Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
