Ryan’s legal practice focuses on debt financing transactions, with special emphasis on a variety of debt products secured by interests in real estate, including project finance, commercial real estate finance, and commercial and industrial loans with a real estate finance component. He has broad experience representing public and private senior secured lenders, contractually and structurally subordinated lenders, and borrowers in the origination and administration of bilateral and syndicated construction loans, working capital loans, and term loans – ranging in size from several millions of dollars to over three billion dollars. Ryan’s deep understanding of these debt products and the financial backdrop in which his clients operate, as well as his commitment to providing unparalleled client service, make him a valuable part of any debt financing.
Ryan has been involved in energy project finance for over a decade, with a special focus on renewable energy project finance. He represents financial institutions and solar project developers in the origination and administration of solar project construction loans, tax equity bridge loans, and term loans, including individual project financings, portfolio financings, and high-level revolving project development guidance facilities. Ryan also has experience with the structuring and execution of the monetization of investment tax credits, including partnership flips, inverted leases, and tax credit dispositions.
Ryan was awarded a Donald L. Smith/Manila G. Shaver Scholarship to attend Duke University School of Law, where he graduated with honors. In connection with his undergraduate education at Campbell University, he received numerous merit scholarships and awards, was included on the President’s List for all semesters of his enrollment, and graduated with highest honors.
Ryan, his wife Christine, and their children live in Mt. Holly, North Carolina. In addition to his activities in and near the Charlotte metropolitan area, Ryan is an active volunteer in his home community near Hickory, North Carolina, and is particularly involved in matters relating to the church that he and his family attend.
