Anne Bentley McCray Partner

For more than two decades, Anne has served as an integral part of the firm's litigation bench. She currently co-chairs the firm's e-discovery practice group, and manages a team of discovery attorneys at the firm’s Richmond, Virginia e-discovery site.

Unlike many lawyers in this area, her practice is rooted in more than a decade of trial and arbitration experience. As a result, Anne provides a valuable defense-focused perspective while also ensuring the e-discovery process is as efficient and cost-effective as possible for lawyers and clients. A leader in the field, Anne is a frequent speaker and author in the ever-changing area of e-discovery.  She works to keep McGuireWoods lawyers and clients up-to-date on issues as they develop.

Clients look to Anne for litigation preparedness and to help them establish e-discovery protocols. However, when litigation does proceed, she leverages her experience as e-discovery counsel in multidistrict litigation; products liability, antitrust, and securities litigation; and white collar criminal defense matters, including bribery, fraud and conspiracy.

As an e-discovery professional, Anne has a bird’s eye view of the massive amount of data that companies generate, collect, and maintain – and importantly, she sees how much it costs to gather, review and produce that data during litigation. As a result, Anne also counsels clients on document retention and data risk management practices. Her goal is to help clients manage their data in a way that positions them in a cost-effective and efficient litigation stance.

Over the course of her career, Anne has represented clients in state and federal courts, as well as in arbitrations, mediations, regulatory investigations and various other administrative proceedings. Her experience has included general liability defense, medical malpractice, workers’ compensation and employment discrimination.

Anne previously served as chair of the Richmond offices' Women’s Leadership Forum. She is also a former chair of the Richmond chapter of Women in Ediscovery. While earning her law degree, Anne received the David P. Gilmore Award for Excellence in the Study of Labor Law.
