McGuireWoods Bolsters Energy M&A Capabilities With Houston Partner David Aaronson

Accomplished Deal Lawyer Advises Oil & Gas Companies, Private Equity Sponsors and Financial Institutions

McGuireWoods continues the strategic expansion of its energy M&A and finance capabilities with the addition of accomplished deal lawyer David Aaronson as a partner in Houston. Aaronson brings nearly 16 years of experience advising oil and gas companies, investors and lenders in energy and infrastructure deals.

Aaronson represents domestic and international exploration and production (E&P) operators, middle-market private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies, energy services and infrastructure developers, and financial institutions. He advises on M&A deals, joint ventures, financings, private equity investments and project development. Aaronson also works with issuers and investors to structure oil and gas securitizations. He comes to McGuireWoods from O’Melveny & Myers.

“David brings a rare combination of transactional skill and structured finance experience to our practice, enhancing our capabilities in Houston and beyond,” said Gerald V. Thomas II, deputy managing partner of the firm’s corporate practice.

David Hornyak, chair of McGuireWoods’ Mergers & Acquisitions and Energy Transactions Department, said, “David’s extensive network among E&P operators, private equity sponsors and lenders complements our existing energy platform and reinforces our position as a go-to firm for complex energy transactions.”

Anthony Carna, leader of the firm’s Oil, Gas and Minerals Practice Area, added: “David’s oil and gas securitization experience is particularly valuable as our clients increasingly explore innovative financing structures to fund exploration, development and midstream projects.”

McGuireWoods’ Energy M&A and Finance Practice Group — ranked nationally by Chambers USA, the Legal 500 United States and Best Law Firms — combines focused industry knowledge, regulatory fluency and practical, business-driven solutions to ensure clients complete strategic transactions, secure financing and advance critical projects across the country.

“McGuireWoods’ established energy transactional practice, depth across structured finance and restructuring, and collaborative culture make it the ideal platform to serve my clients and grow my practice,” Aaronson said.

Aaronson’s arrival in McGuireWoods’ Houston office follows the addition earlier this year of partner Mundo de la Fuente, who advises energy, infrastructure and data center developers, as well as investors and lenders in project development and financing deals.

“David’s background in sophisticated energy and infrastructure transactions makes him a perfect fit for our Houston team and adds tremendous value for our clients,” said Tyler VanHoutan, managing partner of the firm’s Houston office.
