McGuireWoods Lawyers Selected for Law360 Editorial Advisory Boards

Nine McGuireWoods lawyers were selected to serve on Law360’s 2024 editorial advisory boards, reflecting their knowledge and experience as top legal and policy advisers. Mike Andrews (Native American board) is a law firm partner and McGuireWoods Consulting senior vice president. He has over 20 years of Indian law experience as a federal, state, and tribal litigator and policy expert, and previously served as staff director and chief counsel for the U.S. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs. He leads McGuireWoods Consulting’s policy work on matters impacting Native American tribes.

Jeffrey Brooker (private equity board) represents private equity funds, independent sponsors and other investors in private equity transactions spanning industries, including healthcare, financial services, software, retail, manufacturing, energy and aerospace. He has advised on landmark multibillion-dollar and middle-market deals.

Jeff Ehrlich (consumer protection board) represents depositories, fintechs, and other providers of consumer financial products and services before the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), state attorneys general and other regulators. He previously served as the CFPB’s deputy enforcement director and currently teaches a law school course on the CFPB.

Casey Erin Lucier (white collar board) represents companies and individuals in government and internal investigations and commercial litigation. She co-chairs McGuireWoods’ congressional investigations practice group. Lucier served as investigative counsel for the U.S. House of Representatives Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Garen Marshall (North Carolina board) is a member of McGuireWoods’ Government Investigations & White Collar Litigation Department. He advises organizations and individuals on investigations concerning corruption and fraud allegations. He is a former federal prosecutor and U.S. Navy special forces combat veteran.

Tatiana Z. Pawlowski (real estate board) focuses her practice on real estate finance transactions. She represents institutional lenders on the origination, sale and servicing of commercial loans intended for securitization and sale in the secondary market and secured by all asset classes, including multifamily, retail, office, hotel and mixed use.

Angelo M. Russo (competition board) focuses his practice on antitrust and trade regulation matters and compliance counseling. He handles criminal and civil antitrust litigation, including competitor-on-competitor antitrust litigation and investigations by the Department of Justice, Federal Trade Commission and state attorneys general. He chairs McGuireWoods’ national recruiting committee. 

Brian Schmalzbach (appellate board) co-chairs McGuireWoods’ appeals and issues group. He concentrates on appellate litigation and class action strategy. Before joining McGuireWoods, he served as a law clerk to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and to 4th Circuit Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson III.

Gerald V. Thomas II (federal tax authority board) chairs McGuireWoods’ Tax & Employee Benefits Department. He focuses on complex transactional tax matters, including M&A, restructurings, reorganizations, private equity funds, joint ventures, real estate investment trusts, financing transactions, and corporate and partnership tax planning. He co-leads McGuireWoods’ Black Professionals in Private Equity & Finance initiative.
