Co-leader of McGuireWoods’ Healthcare & Life Sciences Industry Team, Bart guides healthcare providers, equity sponsors and lenders through mergers and acquisitions, strategic joint ventures and regulatory issues.

For more than 20 years, he has been a trusted advisor to hospitals, health systems, ambulatory surgery centers, dental services organizations (DSOs), large physician group practices and other ancillary services providers on their most important regulatory and transactional matters.

Bart represents private equity funds, healthcare innovators and founders, sellers, physicians and other capital providers in various healthcare-related purchase, sale and financing transactions. He assists in the re-syndication and start-up of practice management platforms, ambulatory surgery centers and hospital-physician joint ventures.

A renowned thought leader on healthcare deal activity and trends, Bart is frequently invited to speak at industry events and has published dozens of articles in top healthcare and legal publications. Chambers USA, Legal 500 United States and The Best Lawyers in America recognize Bart as a top lawyer in healthcare.

While earning his law degree from the University of Notre Dame, Bart was named a White Scholar of the Thomas J. White Center on Law and Government and served as managing editor of the Journal of Law, Ethics & Public Policy. As an undergraduate, he was named a Morehead Scholar at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was a member of the varsity baseball team.

  • Negotiated tri-party joint venture surgery center among major health system, management company, and physician members.
  • Negotiated de novo surgery center joint venture between large hospital system and major orthopedic physician practice.
  • Represented a private equity fund in diligence and acquisition of one of the largest ASC chains in the country.
  • Represented a private equity fund in the acquisition of a multisite durable medical equipment provider.
  • Conducted regulatory and compliance diligence and transaction services on the acquisition of a medical device and pharmaceutical distributor, including change of ownership issues in 40 states.
  • Advised hospital on compliance with Stark, anti-kickback, and tax-exempt laws in the development of compensation arrangements for various physician services.
  • Represented nationwide provider of dialysis services in multi-facility dialysis facility acquisition.
  • Represented lead agent in healthcare regulatory aspects of syndicated credit facility to national provider of healthcare services.
